Initiate the Steps of Evidence Based Practice Essay
Initiate the Steps of Evidence Based Practice - Essay Example Therefore, this paper aims at highlighting the skills and knowledge that the implementation of evidence based practice requires, given the consistency that this process demands. The clinical practice that the paper will focus on is the reason behind proper washing of the hands and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as a measure of infection control. The background questions that guide the relevance of this clinical practice is how often do we see nurses on a unit washing their hands. In addition to that, the practice is based on the definition of effective hand washing and what the purpose of personal protective equipment is in the nursing practice. Besides, the question of how healthcare providers get bacterial contamination comes into light. The practice of hand washing is a first break of infection. It represents the cheapest and most effective way of preventing infections including the nosocomial infections. Many of the HAI cases are preventable by implementing a combination of strategies, which include environmental cleaning and control, the use of personal protective equipment and the utilization of precautions concerning isolation. The use of antiseptic agents as a concept of hand washing began in the 19th century. In 1961, the United States Public Health Service released a film that demonstrated the training of techniques used in effective hand washing and recommended it for use by healthcare workers. In the years 1975 and 1985, there were releases of formal guidelines on the practices on hand washing in hospitals as published by CDC (Isaacs, 2012). Moreover, the history of personal protective equipment dates back to 1970 when the United States CDC recommended the use of seven categories of isolation. Fast track to the year 1983, the precautions of isolation on secretion or drainage, tuberculosis, blood and body fluid were recommended. The CDC further extended the precaution levels in the year 2007 to envisage safe injection

Expectations regarding the role of women by their families in India Essay
Expectations regarding the role of women by their families in India - Essay Example Women in India are expected to depend upon men in almost every matter of life. Although roaming about of women on their own is considered a sign of modernity and perceived as self-confidence on the part of the women, yet it is translated negatively when it comes to considering such independent women for marriage. One of the families searching for a bride for their son expressed their perception about such independent women in these words, ââ¬Å"A girl who ââ¬Ëroams aboutââ¬â¢ the city by herself is not the girl for our familyâ⬠(Nanda 429). In order for the married couple to live a prosperous life, it is considered imperative that the bride is below the groom in a variety of matters that include but are not limited to height, education, and professional status. Although the people of India are generally very optimistic about getting their daughters educated especially in the contemporary age, yet when it comes to marriage, too much education is a demerit rather than a mer it because the boys on average themselves are not very highly educated. The Indian society has established family as the first and the foremost priority for women and everything else including profession falls secondary to it. Girls are expected to have their marriage arranged by their parents rather than searching for their husbands themselves.

Recovery and Disposal of Solid Waste in Landfills Research Paper
Recovery and Disposal of Solid Waste in Landfills - Research Paper Example Recovery operations in a mixed-waste materials recovery facility involve manual and mechanical sorting. This aids in separating recyclables, which further undergo processing to meet some technical standards. Afterwards, the mixed waste stream might be sent to a landfill for further disposal. Disposal of waste in landfills may have created problems for people and the environment. Landfills that were not properly taken care of or handled led to the creation of various problems. The problems associated with landfills made it possible for people to create sanitary landfills. These are areas designed to isolate waste from the immediate environment until it is no longer a threat. It is in this area that the waste is considered completely degraded (Ramchandra 84). The flexible membrane in liners has allowed liners to temporarily address the issue of groundwater contamination. The clay soil that lines the sides and bottom of the landfills works toward protecting the surrounding groundwater from any leachate releases. The liners are then fitted with leachate collection and removal systems, which remove leachate for treatment and disposal (Jayarama

African American Adolescents Future Education Orientation Essay - 13
African American Adolescents Future Education Orientation - Essay Example In the articles that have been presented, it is clear that the authors have used Krumboltzââ¬â¢s Social Learning Theory to assess the students and the plan are based on this assessment. In the article of Utahââ¬â¢s School counseling, the authors have included some essential elements like the demographic information like sex, race, creed and other relevant information based on which the authors have suggested a plan based on the explanation provided by Krumboltz. The goals that have been set down in the paper are based on the acquisition of self-knowledge and the required skills for negotiating in a world where the level of uncertainty is always high. The decision made in this article also highlights the need that people tend to make poor decisions if the learning opportunity is presented to them, and it is essential to explain the importance of the decision making by career counseling. The article has also highlighted that the Utah schools have adopted counseling where the stud ents to counselor ration should account for 350: 1. However, in the schools of Utah, the schools tend to only use the counselors for specific counseling activities and not for any other activities (Bitner, -Stevenson and Burnham). This allows more effectiveness and concentration of the counselors on the student needs and requirements. A similar situation for a more specific group of students has been presented in the other article. Here again the authors have taken into account the various aspect like race, creed, age and sex of the students and planned a career development plan in an appropriate manner to assist these student develop and have also included an essential factor of the perceived parental support as well (Kerpelman, Eryigit and Stephens).

Organizational Philosophies and Technology Essay - 2
Organizational Philosophies and Technology - Essay Example of the core factors that form company culture include shared norms and values of the employees, organizational policies, behavior of managers and executive body, mission of the organization, common goals and objectives, and the way or technology through which an organization makes its employees reach those goals and objectives. In this paper, we will discuss the role which technology plays in shaping the organizational culture. Corcoran (n.d.) states, ââ¬Å"Implementation of new technology forces changeâ⬠. Technology plays a key role in setting and managing ethical standards and guidelines for the employees of a company. Managers can make use of technology to inject the sense of ethics in the minds of the employees. For example, installation of observation cameras in the workplace makes employees stick to the ethical values and standards set by the administration of the company. Under observation, employees do not perform any act, which is not considered ethical for the workplace environment. In this way, employees adopt such ethical values that not only make them progress in their professional careers without any bad points in the character sheet but also create a peaceful and ethical work environment in the company. Technology provides managers with the tools that they require for setting ethical standards. Managers give tasks to the employees and provide them with the necessary technological equipments to accomplish those tasks. In this way, managers guide their employees to make the best use of technology. Using technology, managers can also know the type of communication that takes place between their employees. Managers of many companies communicate ethical standards set by their companies to the employees by writing the ethical standards on the desktop wallpapers of the computer systems. In this way, employees of a company become fully aware of the ethical standards of the company, which help employees perform their tasks in accordance with those
Reaction Time & Hemispheric Asymmetry Dissertation
Reaction Time & Hemispheric Asymmetry - Dissertation Example The tests failed to demonstrate a clear association with hemispheric aptitude in terms of reaction speed based on results of previous investigations in the literature. Introduction The two halves of the human brain are responsible for different perceptions and styles of information processing. Handedness as a functional preference begins with an entire half of the brain, one of which is personally dominant, and it is that dominant half that is used to process much information. Nonetheless, cognitive functions are enhanced when both sides of the brain learn to get along cooperatively, sharing capabilities in a balanced fashion. To optimize this sharing for the benefit of performance, there should always be room for strengthening whichever a person's weaker hemisphere happens to be. The left brain functions in a sequential, linear manner. It is an organizing, rank-making, list-maker. Left-brained individuals enjoy orderly planning, schedule-creation, and structured organization. Left-b rains finish tasks in sequence and enjoy the regularity that this regimented approach allows. And thus, learning in sequence can be easier for these individuals. Functions such as spelling are probably easier for left-brains. A sequential approach to mathematical calculations and stepwise directions are ideal conditions for this learner. This left hemisphere is also vital for many forms of communication. Aphasia can result from trauma, tumors or stroke-damage to the left hemisphere. Certain complex mouth-movements may be affected also. It is clear that language processing as well as spatial intelligence, and subtle movements involving hand-gestures are dependent on the left hemisphere. (Toga et al. 2003) In seeming opposition is the approach of the right-brained thinker. More haphazard and spontaneous. The right-brained thinker may drift through different modes and styles of thought. They may lack the regimented prioritization of the left-brained operator when they do complete the w ork they have set themselves towards. They may not accomplish less, but in a less direct fashion. A task may be delayed not because the right-brained wasn't applying themselves, but that they were applying themselves to many different priorities. Excessive regimentation provokes feelings of restlessness or rebellion. But schedules and order are still useful, and are perhaps more essential for this thinker. Editing, error-correction and spell-checking will be more important for this learner. Colors and images may be useful to this thinker as an organizational tool, as vivid depictions will be impactful for a right-dominant mind. Mnemonic devices should be the most beneficial for this thinker. In addition, the right cerebral hemisphere specializes in spatial perception and topographical comprehension, and men score higher than women when the input is restricted to the right hemisphere, or conversely, obtain significantly lower scores than women on such tasks after damage to this hemis phere. The left hemisphere specializes in language, and trauma here leads to aphasia, linguistic impairment in speaking, comprehending, or both. The fact that women score lower than men in right hemi-sphere tasks was for years explained in terms of the crowding out effect, a concept referring to the left hemis

Fashion Channel Essay Example for Free
Fashion Channel Essay Analysis Following Rosewood through this case study we have seen the company come to a crossroads. The company had to redefine itself to stay relevant in an evolving space. Rosewood had a reputation for managing uniquely distinctive properties without widespread corporate brand name awareness. Each individual property enjoyed vast success in particular from repeat guests who mostly stayed at only one of their distinctive properties in their growing portfolio. Now the company is looking to the future and specifically evaluating whether or not to incorporate the Rosewood brand into the name of each hotel. Rosewoodââ¬â¢s senior management is engaging several tools to make their decision. Implementing this new strategy could lead to a bright future or spell disaster. Pros and cons of Rosewood moving to a corporate brand What is branding? According to Entrepreneur magazine ââ¬Å"The marketing practice of creating a name, symbol or design that identifies and differentiates a product from other products.â⬠Creating a corporate brand can come with positive and negatives. Rosewoodââ¬â¢s objective will be to leave an imprint that no one else can leave and to create magic moments that their guests will never forget. Such as when the guest goes down memory lane years later after their stay, they will recall the positively outrageous service, the amenities, the food and the atmosphere created by Rosewood. No other hotel will duplicate what they experienced at their properties. Another positive to branding, Rosewood will create standards to measure the overall performance of all their properties. Such as curb appeal, beautiful landscaping, manicured green grass, flowers in season, to beautiful shrubs and trees. Additionally, as the guest arrives the people become part of the standard set, from the doorman, to the desk clerk, to the bellman, to housekeeping, to the engineering team that keeps the building and room temperature comfortable. This is where Rosewood can benefit from differentiation and drive performance. For that reason Jack Welch states in a World Press article, ââ¬Å"Companies win when their managers make a clear and meaningful distinction between top- and bottom-performing businesses and people, when they cultivate the strong and cull the weakâ⬠. Some of Rosewoodââ¬â¢s property managers, as mentioned in Harvard Business Review:à Rosewood Hotels and Resorts: Branding to increase customer profitability and lifetime value, many had ââ¬Å"mixed feelingsâ⬠about moving to a corporate brand. When you are measured against other hotels there is only so much room at the top. Naturally, there will some managers that will be asked to ââ¬Å"ship up or ship outâ⬠. Thus, the upside is each hotel pushes each other to be the best they can be. Finally, the guest could anticipate what experience they will have at each Rosewood if they moved to a uniform brand. On the other hand, the down side or cons of moving to a uniform brand for Rosewood could be that data gathered from properties could be skewed or demographic information could not apply to all hotels across the brand. According to Phillip Kotler in A Framework for Marketing and Management ââ¬Å"The data collection phase of marketing research is generally the most expensive and the most prone to errorâ⬠(p.39). Also, some management after differentiation is established and measured could be dismissed if their hotel is at the bottom. Finally, another con could be that some management and employees are not good team players and are not able to uphold the standards charted by management. Customer Lifetime Value Calculator Using a tool like the Customer Lifetime value calculator can be helpful to Rosewood management as they crunch the numbers. This tool helps management take quantitative information and funnel it down to several outcomes. However, garbage in garbage out must be considered here. The CLTV is only as good as the information provided. If one Rosewood hotel provides flawed information or has not collected the data properly, the assumptions arrived to by the CLTV are not accurate. Perhaps as JWMI 518 W2, L2 states ââ¬Å"The best approach is often to make use of both qualitative and quantitative researchâ⬠. This approach considers the ever changing market conditions, tangibles and intangibles contained within qualitative and quantitative research. They are both valuable and have their place. Finally, within all the data and assumptions gained from the CLTV, there is one factor not considered. The relationship factor. In order to carry out the legendary service brand Rosewood wants to create, the most critical factor the team should be focused on is building relationships. The data, the CLTV, the amenities and a uniform brand all revolves around the staff building meaningful relationships with the guests. The standardized expectation ofà how the guests are served is the most important ingredient and the CLTV does not factor this into the equation. According to INC Magazine, ââ¬Å"The truth is that entrepreneurs too often get caught up in the details of the kinds of products or services they are selling to notice how critical it is to build relationships not just with your customers, but also with your vendors, employees andââ¬âgaspââ¬âeven your competitors. Without strong relationships, it is impossible to have success as a business owner, Recommendation My recommendation is that Rosewood should move to branding their hotels using the Rosewood brand immediately. Without setting standard foundations the guest will not know what to anticipate. Rosewood could use standardized data to help anticipate the needs of the guest before they even asked. Also, creating a uniform brand will help everyone come together as one team. When you are a consummate team player you elevate the performance of everyone around them and then there is no limit to what you can do as a team. When Rosewood has everyone on the same page going in the same direction they can create a wow factor the guest will be telling the world about. To most of the world, getting good service is common versus giving positively outrageous service is uncommon. Having a satisfied customer is common versus taking that satisfied customer exceeding his or her expectations and then taking the service one percent beyond that now Rosewood can create a raving fan that is uncommon.
